Facebook has assured its users that it is working with FBI already to check if any other service was affected or not and how deep the entire situation goes. In the meantime, the firm will be messaging those users whose accounts were hacked and will tell them exactly what information was taken.
But before the investigation is concluded and full information is provided, there is still a way for you to check whether your Facebook account was affected by the security breach. Just follow the easy steps outlined below.
How to check if your Facebook account has been hacked
Open Facebook on desktop and visit the Facebook Help Centre by typing the following into your URL (https://www.facebook.com/help/securitynotice).
Scroll to the bottom of the page and see for the subtopic ‘Is my Facebook account impacted by the security issue?’
If your account was hacked, below the subtopic, you should see,
Yes. Based on what we’ve learned so far in our investigation, attackers accessed the following Facebook account information
The message will be followed by texts like ‘Name’, ‘Email addresses’, ‘Phone Number’ and more. It will also mention the information attackers did not steal from the account.
But if you are fortunate that your Facebook account wasn’t hacked, the message will be,
Based on what we’ve learned so far, your Facebook account has not been impacted by this security incident. If we find more Facebook accounts were impacted, we will reset their access tokens and notify those accounts.
The Facebook team is working hard to put users mind at rest after the security breach, with the few steps mentioned above, you can check if your account has been tampered with or not.
